I always loved rain, from my very young ages i loved watching rain come down, loved playing in the rain, even loved swimming in the near by lake (its a small one). Trees looked that much more greener to me when it was raining. What excites me most is the heavy rain with lots of wind and thunder.

This is what i was thinking when i saw the huge damages that landslides has caused during the inter monsoon season. All the rivers are overflowing with brownish water. kandy - Colombo road is in bad shape as heavy rains has ruined what little was left on the A1 road. Its now an almost 5 hour journey to Kandy on a typical Friday evening. During the lengthy stoppages on my way to kandy, I looked outside the shutter of the bus i was travelling thinking of my childhood rain fantasies.

to only realize that I have not changed much…………..I still love rain.

Mr. Narayana Murthy, chairman of Infosys Technologies India is highly regarded as a innovator. I received a powerpoint presentation from one of my friends, which carries certain excepts from a speech delivered by him regarding work life balance. He emphasizes, why IT staff should not over work themselves, and why they should also practice a good work life balance.

I think IT projects put such an enormous amount of pressure on its team that the crux of what Mr. Murthy says become impracticle and irrelevant. Mr. Murthy describes the ideal situation, but the reality is far far away from the ideal and I feel is geting worse. If organizations finds a better way to manage the people, technology, process triad, I beleive that there lies the solution.

This would help to boost the overall image of the IT practice, since satisfied staff increases the stability and the image of the industry. CMMI is an attempt to address the better management of this triad.
