In early 2004 (February 9th 2004) I joined Emerging Technologies as my first job. Since then I have served the company as a Software Engineer getting involved basically in Microsoft .NET platform development. I was part of the team which successfully developed and implemented several web based solutions using ASP.NET. It was also during this time that ET was involved in developing it’s flagship Internet based solution for Tour Operators and tour whole salers - Tour Planner.

So…………after serving ET for over 2 1/2 years, I’m joinning KPMG Ford, Rhodes, Thornton & Co which is the Sri-Lankan member firm of Global Big Four firm KPMG, as an ICT Advisor.

This would also signal somewhat of an end, to my Software Engineering Career given the fact that I will not be involved in Software Development as such. Nevertheless the experince and exposure I have gained during the past 2 1/2 years will be valuable for me to shape up my next career move which will start from tomorrow - 1st September 2006 at KPMG.

I would like to thank my Parents, Brother, Friends and colleagues for the help and support they have given me.

Also I plan to continue this blog and my new postings will reflect the work I do at my new company. During the course of this week, I was also elected as a Member of the British Computer Society (MBCS).

I came across this site which provides you with a cool feature to Convert your documnts/images to .pdf format by uploading it to the site. Quite a number of common document formats such as .doc, .ppt, .txt, .rtf are supported as wel as some common image formats such as .jpg, .gif, .bmp, .tiff are supported.

The maximum upload size of a file is currently 2.0 MB and you have to provide it with a email address for the .pdf to be emailed back to you.

Sri-LankaAugust 7, 2006 2:06 am

This morning I saw this news article on the Kerala News Portal which says that Sri-Lanka records the Highest rate of Breast feeding in the world, which is 98%. I was so glad and felt so much of gratitude and love for all our mothers for the compassion and love they have for their children. One should not forget that our Religious and Cultural values have always made a big impact on our mothers and through out our history we have seen and experinced this unconditional love of our mothers for their children.

Also our Health and Education Systems does quite a good job in Educating our pregnant mothers about the value of breast milk and the advantages it brings for a newborn. Also its amazing how our mothers are holding on to these moral values at a time when these values are threatened by western ideology.

Let this be a tribute to all our loving mothers of Sri-Lanka…………the emerald isle………………………………………..

Software Development 9:15 am

As I was involved in finding different ways and means to tackle the above problem, I was able to find two products which seems to address my issue. I also posted this in our Sri-Lanka .NET forum and for almost 2 weeks there is no reply.

I felt that Design Patterns will not really be that friendly when it comes to dealing with pluggable business rules which are quite complex. There fore I turned into rule engines which will support this kind of complexity. One is an Open Source Rule engine which Supports ASP.NET 2.0. More information is here.

There is another tool here which I did not have a proper look. This of course you have to buy.
