Artificial IntelligenceOctober 21, 2005 2:00 pm

Even though I’m a Business Systems developer, I’m not entirely happy with the way we go about with our applications. For a long time “Knowledge” and “Intelligence ” was always in my menu as favourites. Once I tried a very small Neural Network Application to try and predict stock market behaviour. Even though I did not have all the Data required th train the network (Neural Network training is a painstaking job) i enjoyed what I did. Today I came across this website http://www.makhfi.com/ .

I liked the simple presentation of key things. Also as a C# developer this is interesting to me. A C# class library with a Neural Net generating tool is always welcome.

We were waiting at Borella waiting for a Bus, me to go to Mt Lavinia on 154 route and Rajive to Borella.(After the .NET forum meeting yesterday). Suddenly one of these new CTB buses came which was recently imported from Japan for the Reincarnation of CTB.
It was a fully airconditioned bus (AC was swithed of) with Auto doors and also only a single seat line on each side. So the inside was quite spacious and suits our rush hours.
Also the bus ride was very smooth considering the pathetic road conditions in Colombo. So after all our government has done something good, and this also should be the way since we as a country should promote public transport as a long term strategy as we face the rising fuel bill. (80$+ per barrel ). But its up to the CTB drivers and conductors to make sure that they provide a good service to the Tax payer and also to use the new buses properly unlike the Ceylon Takarang Buses we already have.

Yesterdays .NET User group meeting was again full of new stuff. Vikas Gupta, a Senior Software person from Virtusa did a Very Informative (good to see all the code samples) presentation on ADO.NET 2.0. Microsoft has really addressed some performance as well as general usability issues in ADO.NET 2.0. Factory classes, Improved Transaction scope over multiserver transactions and also the bit of code he showed on how to encrypt and decrypt the web.config file was really interesting. Also the added features for DataTable level communication with XML files, (with ADO.NET 1.0 we worked with DataSets to read and write to XML) really speaks good on performance.
There were many more…………… But above is just a glimpse of it.
Also the second quick presentation By Meril Fernando (He’s now a Developer Evangelist for Microsoft) on Microsoft Express Editions were as usuall…………Interesting.
A good crowd was present and its good to see so many enthusiasts.

First very importantly we (Trinity) thrashed Royal after four long year. Final Total of the both legs was 69-13. Its a pitty that we could not go for the kill.(The record 83-something). Any way its refreshing to see some good intelligent Rugby being played by our college lads. Respice Finem for the Best School Of All.

SecondWe (Our Company) signaled yet another milestone in signing a contract with first local customer for our recent Software. It was success through sheer hard work and I had all the reasons in the world to feel special on this. Anyway this is the beginning and there is more to come.
Also the company adopted the moto which was my creation…………..
Make IT happen. (Make Information Technology Happen.)

With all these good things I missed a very important Wedding function of one of my close friends. (Due to sickness.) Even the wedding present was wrapped. I felt very sorry. Luckily he understood when I called him to wish. Good Luck Hesara, Purnima……….

Miscellaneous 12:57 pm

Quite a few things were keeping me away from frequent blogging. So that this entry is coming after almost one month since my last blog entry I need to explain the reasons for the silence.
First I was terribly sick with a viral disease which I did not pay due attention it needed. What did I do wrong? First when I started feeling a little pain on my left bicep I neglected and when one or two blisters were already visible I thought they were either a skin rash or an insect bite. But the pain ever increased until I was forced to go to the doctor. He said its ‘Herpes’. I got a SHOCK…………
How the hell I get Herpes!!!!!!!!!!!!! But it was Herpes Zoster. But luckily it was not as dangerous as it seems in this link. Nice thing is that I did’nt even get a slight fever. But I do admit that I felt very lethargic.
So finally I had to bed rest for one week. And here I’m again.
